I am excited to share that I have been invited to participate in the group show, Surface Tension, at School of the Art Institute of Chicago’s Sullivan Galleries.

In the show, I have created a series of works to be installed in a group and in conversation with one another.  The pieces are abstractions on concepts relating to self-publishing and print-on-demand technologies.

Images from my event at yesterday’s Printers Ball

Referencing Dorothea Rockburne’s Drawing Which Makes Itself,  I created a series of book objects with imagery generated by photocopying blank paper onto itself. The multiples were bound on site, after a few hours I had completed production on 12 objects.

THIS SATURDAY in Chicago!

Artist Leah Mackin will create art objects in book form. Part performance, part installation, the viewer is invited to witness the production of these unique multiples. Through printing and binding, Mackin references the mechanized action of the photocopier, the method used to generate the pages of the book objects. 4:00 – 6:30 pm, The Post Family (via EVENT SCHEDULE | PRINTERS BALL)

VINYL AMERICA

On the theme of historic American road travel through the Midwest and upstate New York into New England, we drove from Chicago, IL to the coast of Maine with stops at artists’ environments along the way.  We chronicled the trip as we went on the VINYL AMERICA tumblr, but more narrative/insights will be added to the website as we continue to adventure and chronicle our travels.
